Cycle4haiti started as a modest suggestion of gathering a few staff members to cycle to Galway to raise funds for Haiti. Nine years later and with hundreds of thousands raised, the cycle is now an annual staple and one of Ireland’s biggest and most successful fundraising events. With hundreds of cyclists taking part, the event is a great opportunity to get fit, to enjoy great company, and for companies to build staff morale with sponsored cycle teams. What’s more, anyone can take part – the event is open to all abilities, and all are welcome.
In 2016 The Soul of Haiti Foundation merged with Haven. This helped to reduce administration costs but brought together both charities to work on three core development areas: water and sanitation, training and education, and shelter. All funds raised from the cycle go directly to Haven to run these projects.
The Soul of Haiti Foundation was established when a group of entrepreneurs and finalists of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year travelled to Haiti in 2007. These entrepreneurs set up a number of small humanitarian projects in the South of Haiti. The entrepreneurs returned to Haiti in 2008 and subsequently established a Board of Directors to carry out the Foundations mission.
